PHOTOGRAPHER

John is a Colombian photographer and architect whose practice moves between portraiture, documentary, and artistic work. His images explore how memory, identity, and place take visual form. Born in Bogotá, he has visited more than 30 countries, carrying out long-form projects that combine compositional rigor with a deep sensitivity to cultural and human landscapes.

His work has been recognized internationally, with awards such as the Enfoque Conecta Latin American Photography Prize (2022) and first place in the “How Far We Have Come” competition at the Ballarat International Photo Biennale in Australia (2015). His photographs appear in collective publications like 100 Colombian Photographers and have been exhibited at the Bogotá International Photo Biennale, Enfoque Conecta LATAM, the Ballarat Photo Biennale, and at the San Felipe gallery circuit, Galería Natural Foto (2018).

Among his major projects are Tending the Horizon: Women and the Labor of the Llanos, Listening to the Forest: Ancestral Memory in the Amazon, No Land to Live, Only Water to Resist, and Arcabuco, Where the Thread Binds the Land: Woven Memories from the Andes. He also publishes graphic chronicles of his journeys in Colombian media, where photography and text converge to narrate contemporary cultural realities.

He co-founded RAWLAB, a visual arts collective in Colombia that unites creators from classical to experimental practices, encouraging collaboration, exhibitions, and new approaches to image-making. As an educator, he has led workshops and courses at universities in Bogotá, sharing knowledge and cultivating new generations of photographers. His practice values slow processes, intergenerational dialogue, and the subtle poetics of daily life.

Alongside his artistic projects, John works with clients and institutions, offering photography, postproduction and retouching, teaching and mentoring, and fine art print production — accompanying each process from the first idea through execution, promotion, and final exhibition.
